Should the public be concerned about radiation when taking an airplane?
According to the recommendations of ICRP-132, radiation doses that pose a health risk to people who fly occasionally are generally not high enough. According to a report released by the Nuclear Safety Commission Radiation Monitoring Center, the average annual effective dose of natural background radiation per person is 2.37 mSv. The radiation dose for a round-trip flight from Taiwan to Tokyo is approximately 0.01 mSv, which is about 0.42% of the natural background; and the radiation dose for a round-trip flight from Taiwan to New York is approximately 0.16 mSv, which is about 6.75% of the natural background.
