Methods for assessing flight dose
Flight doses can be assessed and calculated using computer programs or measured using radiation detection instruments installed on aircraft. Currently, most countries adopt the program evaluation method and verify the accuracy of program evaluation through experimental measurement.
✔Flight dose calculation
The flight dose caused by cosmic rays can be evaluated using computational programs that take into account variables such as flight path, altitude, duration, and solar activity. In general, flights with longer distances, higher altitudes, or routes crossing high-latitude regions tend to have higher radiation doses. This method is often used internationally to monitor the dose of flight crew members.
✔In-flight dose measurement
Common measurement techniques used internationally include active measurement methods, such as Tissue-Equivalent Proportional Counters (TEPC), which provide real-time dose rate variations, and passive measurement techniques, such as track detectors (CR-39), which require laboratory analysis after exposure.
