National Radiation Standard Laboratory-The Highest National Ionizing Radiation Measurement Standards

【Technical Introduction】
NRSL/NARI is the member of the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) and an associate member of the Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures (CGPM). NRSL/NARI provides 12 standards which include 9 primary standards, and all of the primary standards are equivalent with international standards through international comparisons. Furthermore, NRSL/NARI has successfully passed reviews by the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM). As a result, a total of 89 entries have been officially registered in the Appendix C database of the Calibration and Measurement Capabilities (CMCs) table under the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM). Following the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), NRSL/NARI continues to maintain ionizing radiation measurement standards that are in line with the requirements from the domestic laboratory certification system, the government regulations and so on. A comprehensive measurement and traceability system with ionizing radiation standards equivalent to international standards are established accordingly, and industrial competitiveness can be improved.

【Project Planning/Technology Application】
NRSL/NARI establishes and maintains ionizing radiation measurement standards for domestic calibration, ionizing radiation research and testing cooperating with the Nuclear Safety Commission’s (NSC) policies which emphasize on radiation and nuclear safety, and the government administrative visions of innovative economy, sustainable energy and LOHAS Taiwan. Currently, ionizing radiation has been applied to medical radiology, non-destructive testing (NDT), radiation processing, environmental monitoring, radiation protection, radioactive waste recycling and so on. Through development of the industrial technology, welfare of the people can be increased, quality life can be pursued, and responsibility for the environment and the society will be carried.
 
【Future layout】
NRSL/NARI will actively participate in international affairs and international comparisons, establish complete measurement traceability systems, develop and improve industry-related standards, and engage in promotion and application of measurement technology; hence promotion of atomic energy technology in safety and benefits of medical care, environmental protection and industry application can be strengthened, and radiation standard application to the welfare of the society and the people can be implemented.
